MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WREG) — A cat trapped on a utility pole for three days was rescued by a Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) crew Monday afternoon.

Cat lovers took to social media over the weekend after the cat was spotted on top of a pole in the Orange Mound area. One cat rescue group stated that the cat was stuck near an uninsulated wire, making a rescue attempt too dangerous.

After a number of concerned citizens contacted MLGW, the power was turned off, and just after noon, some MLGW contractors in a bucket truck were able to reach the black and white kitty.

“We are happy to report that the cat that was trapped at the top of a utility pole in the Orange Mound area is back on the ground and safe,” said MLGW. “Thank you to all of the concerned neighbors who contacted MLGW about the kitten.

MLGW said the cat was hungry and thirsty and was taken to a veterinarian’s office to make sure he is not hurt or sick.

The cat, some suggested online be named “Volt,” is being adopted by a member of MLGW’s Corporate Communications team.
