Man’s finger bit off during altercation in Virginia

CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A man’s finger was bitten off during an altercation at a Caroline County gas station on Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, Jan. 13, around 5 p.m., the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Flying J Travel Center located at 24279 Rogers Clark Boulevard. Once on the scene, deputies found an adult man on the ground with a serious injury to a portion of his right hand’s ring finger.

The victim was alert and conscious at the scene, but was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The initial investigation reported that the incident began when multiple people at the fuel pumps had a verbal dispute that turned physical.

During the altercation between the two men, a finger was bitten, which resulted in a traumatic injury.

Deputies were able to locate the piece of the finger that was bitten off and took it with the victim to a nearby hospital.

Witnesses at the scene were able to break up the fight and later provided statements to deputies. There were also surveillance cameras to help piece together the timeline of events.

From the investigation, a 54-year-old man was arrested but was released on secured bond.
