(WFRV) – A Wisconsin man is now in custody following his 2nd OWI offense on Monday night after he took a breath test and was found to be 21 times the legal limit.
According to a release from the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 6:09 p.m. to the area after reports were made of a driver swerving in the roadway on US Highway 10, significantly varying speeds, and almost hitting a guardrail.
Officials found the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on US Highway 10 near County Road A, with deputies stating they could smell a strong odor of alcohol and other signs of intoxication coming from the 41-year-old driver.
A preliminary breath test found the driver to have an alcohol concentration of .427. Following a previous arrest for OWI, deputies say the driver was to have a .02 restriction, making him 21x the legal limit.
Due to his high level of intoxication, the 41-year-old driver was taken to the hospital for medical care. He was arrested on the following potential charges:
- Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated (2nd offense)
- Failure to Install an Ignition Interlock Device
- Operating After Revocation
