(NewsNation) — Six puppies are safe and recovering from a suspected fentanyl overdose after they were taken to a Washington state fire station.

In a post on Facebook, the Sky Valley Fire Department said a person brought three unresponsive puppies to their station early Sunday, and said they found that all three were in critical condition and experiencing respiratory issues. According to the post, the puppies are 10 weeks old.

From their condition, the firefighters determined they may have been suffering from a possible fentanyl overdose and gave them Naloxone, or Narcan nasal spray. The puppies responded to the treatment.

The fire department then got in contact with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department, whose officers were then able to locate the home of the person who brought the puppies to the fire station and found three more puppies in the same condition.

The additional three puppies were also given Naloxone once they were brought to the station and responded to the treatment as well. All six puppies are at a veterinary urgent care clinic where they are still currently recovering.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the matter.
