(NewsNation) — The family of a missing Chicago man is getting a clearer picture of what went wrong in the hours and days before he disappeared.

Dan Davis was last seen in person on Nov. 25, 2025.

Now, a bizarre scene at his apartment and surveillance video showing his vulnerable state has left his family with a better understanding of what he might be dealing with, but it still hasn’t brought him home.

Dan Davis was in a car crash before he disappeared

The Cook County deputy who dropped Davis off at work after a car crash earlier in the evening described him as polite and thankful.

The next day, Nov. 26, 2025, Davis’ family and friends would realize he was missing.

A subtle incident at the drop-off could provide a clue.

“He obviously trips up the curb there, looks like his left leg that my dad is having trouble using and getting up on the curb with,” his daughter, Wendy Davis, told NewsNation.

She says deputies cleared him of being intoxicated at the crash scene.

But when Dan Davis went inside 115 Bourbon Street, a popular nightclub where he works as a lighting and production technician, he was disoriented, even knocking into barstools without seeming to notice.

Kenny Braasch worked with Davis for decades.

“He’s not walking normal, and he doesn’t look to be acting normal, something happened,” Braasch said. “What could have happened? It’s like putting a puzzle together, it’s this big mystery at this point.”

Security cameras show Dan Davis’ movements

Using home security cameras, Davis’ family worked to piece together a timeline of his movements across the southwest suburbs.

Davis walked through a residential neighborhood, unsteady on his feet, then a commercial area, still on foot. The next night, he’s seen leaving a Catholic mass.

From there, a bloodhound traced him to a nearby railyard.

“We do not believe he was physically capable of climbing a ladder and opening a box truck somehow and getting inside one of those trains,” Wendy Davis said. “Not only that, but the railyard is heavily monitored with cameras and there are always employees out, hooking up cars and doing stuff at all times, it’s bright with the lights on, and my dad would have been caught.”

Dan Davis’ apartment was in disarray

Davis also points out that her father’s favorite Hoosiers sweatshirt is on inside out, but it’s what happened in his apartment, before the crash, that provides even more concerning information.

“We believe my dad suffered some type of medical episode while at his apartment during the day. Whether it was a stroke or fall, something in his head to make him disoriented and confused and whatever,” she said. “We know this because of the state of his apartment. His fridge was left open, there’s a TV dinner face down on the ground, things are in kind of just disarray, which is unlike him.”

Davis says her dad’s phone last pinged in his apartment on Nov. 24, 2025, and he was the type to always be on his phone. His bank account is also untouched.
