(KRON) — Benicia police recovered thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen merchandise on Saturday, Jan. 3.

In August of 2025, several custom-made guitars, valued at more than $120,000, were stolen from the residence of a deceased individual in the East Bay, according to the Benicia Police Department.

Police said a family member of the deceased individual reached out to many Bay Area businesses to provide descriptions of the stolen guitars. Based on the descriptions, a Benicia business owner recognized one of the guitars that had been brought in to be placed on consignment.

On Saturday, the business owner worked in coordination with BPD to have the suspect return to the store with a second guitar to place on consignment.

Police determined that the second guitar was also one of the stolen items and arrested the suspect.

BPD returned the stolen guitars to the family.
