(NewsNation) — Prince Harry and Meghan confirmed they had to let some staff go as they restructure and rename their Archewell Foundation to Archewell Philanthropies.

In a statement to People magazine, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s spokesperson explained, “The move toward a fiscal sponsor operating model does mean that some staff redundancies are inevitable, particularly with junior admin roles.”

“We will not be discussing these personnel details further, other than to say that we are honored to have worked with incredibly talented and caring people who dedicate themselves to helping others.”

Three members of the staff were let go from Meghan and Harry’s charitable organization, according to the Daily Mail, which added they were told they were laid off “because the charity was closing.”

Archewell Foundation not closing

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed on Dec. 19 the organization isn’t closing but is being restructured as Archewell Philanthropies to better align with their future charitable goals.

“This next chapter allows Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to broaden their global philanthropic efforts as a family, with meaningful reach and maximum impact, grounded in the same values, partnerships, and their commitment to show up and do good,” the official announcement reads.

Harry and Meghan are auctioning off tickets to attend a dinner with them for around $100,000 to raise money for their charity, Archewell Philanthropies.

The couple’s charity had mostly relied on wealthy, anonymous donors to raise funds and support causes, according to reports.

A spokesperson for Meghan and Harry’s charity told the Daily Mail, “We have partnered with numerous fundraising partners over the years, and CharityBuzz has been one of them.”

Archewell Foundation had $5.1 million in expenses, while only bringing in $2.1 million in donations, the Daily Mail reported.

The organization provided about $1.25 million in grants this year.
