(NewsNation) — Singer Barry Manilow announced he has been diagnosed with lung cancer.

In a statement shared to Instagram, Manilow said he received the diagnosis from his doctor following a bout of bronchitis.

“Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI to make sure that everything was OK,” Manilow, 82, wrote. “The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news.”

Manilow added, however, the “bad news” was that the spot requires surgery to be removed, and will affect the January tour dates of his upcoming farewell tour.

“The doctors do not believe it has spread, and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis,” Manilow continued. “So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and ‘I Love Lucy’ reruns.”

Despite the diagnosis, he said he was “counting down the days” until he could resume his postponed farewell tour in February.
