(NewsNation) — A Romanian court sentenced rapper Wiz Khalifa, 38, to nine months in jail for drug possession on Thursday.

The sentence came over a year after the “Black and Yellow” performer was at a music festival in Romania.

In July 2024, Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was detained by police after he was allegedly smoking cannabis on stage at the Please! Festival in the coastal resort Costinesti in Constanta County, according to the Associated Press.

Prosecutors alleged that Khalifa was discovered with over 18 grams of cannabis.

He was convicted of “possession of dangerous drugs, without right, for personal consumption” by the Constanta Court.

In April, Consanta County’s lower court issued the “Roll Up” rapper a criminal fine of 3,600 lei ($830) for “illegal possession of dangerous drugs,” AP reported. However, prosecutors appealed against the decision, wanting a higher sentence.

Khalifa is a U.S. citizen and doesn’t live in Romania. It is unknown if authorities in the Eastern European country will seek extradition.
