(NewsNation) — While homicide investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department have said very little about the investigation into the deaths of Hollywood legend Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, details continue to emerge.  

The couple was found dead inside their Brentwood home around 4:40 p.m. Sunday. Preliminary, though unconfirmed reports, suggested the couple’s daughter, Romy Reiner, discovered her parents and called police.  

On Monday morning, police confirmed that the Reiners’ 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, had been arrested late Sunday night in connection with the killings.  

The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office has yet to formally charge Reiner, though homicide investigators had been expected to file the case with the DA’s office Tuesday. A court hearing is expected to begin Wednesday if Nick Reiner is medically cleared.

Seeking the death penalty is on the table, according to District Attorney Nathan Hochman.

Firefighters reportedly found Rob, 78, and his wife, Michele, 68, inside the home suffering from stab wounds. They were declared deceased at the scene.

TMZ reported that the couple “had their throats slit by a family member, possibly after an argument.” The outlet also reported that after calling law enforcement, Romy called Billy Crystal and his wife Janice, who “arrived at the scene in a flash” and “saw the slain bodies.” 

In photos released by LAPD’s Gang and Narcotics Division this evening, Reiner is seen being arrested by police, with the assistance of a U.S. Marshal Task Force, near the Expo/Vermont Metro Station in Exposition Park.  

In one of the photos, Reiner is seen surrounded by a half-dozen law enforcement officers who have him on the ground. In two others, he can be seen handcuffed just outside a patrol cruiser. He has since been booked for suspicion of murder and is being held without bail. There are also reports he has been placed on suicide watch while in custody.  

A motive for the killings remains unclear.  

Reiner has had a public struggle with addiction and has been in and out of drug rehab centers over the course of his life, even battling periods of homelessness as a teen.  

While his state of mind before the deaths of his parents is unknown, several media outlets, including the Los Angeles Times, report that father and son attended a party Saturday night at Conan O’Brien’s home, where they were seen arguing. The Times also reported that many people at the party said Nick Reiner was acting strangely that evening.  

Tributes to the couple have continued to pour in, with many praising the couple for years of activism, advocating for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community and children, as well as their storied Hollywood careers.
