(NewsNation) — A pretrial hearing for shooting suspect Luigi Mangione resumed Thursday, with police bodycam footage taking center stage in the 2024 death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The judge is expected to rule soon on which evidence can be used at trial, including key statements and items found during Mangione’s arrest. Newly released bodycam footage shows the first interaction officers had with Mangione last December inside a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

In the two-minute video, officers can be heard asking Mangione for his name, to which he replies with a false one.

MANGIONE: “Uh, Mark.”
OFFICER: “Mark?”
MANGIONE: “Yes sir.”
OFFICER: “Mark what?”
MANGIONE: “Rosario”
OFFICER: “Rosario? Someone called and thought you were suspicious.”

The police officer who escorted Mangione to his arraignment testified Tuesday that when Mangione saw the media and spectators at the Pennsylvania courthouse, he said, “All of these people are here for a mass murderer? Wild.”

It’s unclear whether Mangione was referring to himself or Thompson.

Earlier this week, the court released photos of what investigators said they found in a backpack during Mangione’s arrest, including a loaded magazine, ammo wrapped in wet underwear, a 3D-printed gun and a silencer, as well as notes that appeared to be a to-do list and a possible escape plan.

Mangione’s lawyers are asking the judge to block his early statements, arguing he hadn’t been read his Miranda rights, so some of the evidence should be thrown out. In addition, they argue the search was warrantless and illegal.

Initially, the hearing was expected to wrap up this week, but it will now likely stretch into next week.
