(NewsNation) — More than 10,000 children’s toy writing tablets sold on Amazon have been recalled because the button cell battery powering the devices can be easily accessed and swallowed, federal authorities said.

On Dec. 4, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of the KTEBO-branded Writing Tablet Toy, citing a violation of the mandatory toy standard.

“The screw used to secure the battery compartment that contains a button cell battery does not remain attached as required,” the announcement states. “When button cell or coin batteries are swallowed, the ingested batteries can cause serious injuries, internal chemical burns and death.”

The tablet toys were sold on Amazon in September and October 2025 for between $8 and $30. They were sold in sets of two and came in four color variations (pink/blue, green/yellow, orange/blue, purple/red) and two sizes — 8.5 inches and 10 inches — with a matching-colored stylus.

Though no injuries were reported, consumers should immediately stop using the toys and contact KTEBO to receive a free replacement. The batteries should be disposed of according to hazardous waste procedures.

To obtain a replacement, owners should write “RECALLED” on the back of both tablet toys that came in the set, take a photo of the marked tablet toys, and email writing-tablet-recall@ktebo.com with their name and “Recall proof” in the subject line of the email.
