DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado State Patrol confirmed Thursday evening that it had found an SUV confirmed to have been driven by a missing 20-year-old woman.

The car, a 2016 black Volkswagen Tiguan, was found on its roof in a canal northeast of the Timnath Reservoir off Larimer County Road 1, submerged in water. CSP said that divers did see a body in the vehicle, but the body has not been identified.

Kaylee Russell, 20, of Evans, was last seen on Sunday after dropping her father off at a park-n-ride along Interstate 25 after he helped her change a flat tire. She was driving a 2016 black Volkswagen Tiguan with a Colorado temporary license plate of 7880903. The car also has a GreeleyNissan.com sticker on the rear windshield.

NewsNation affiliate KDVR’s Vicente Arenas was at the scene where Russell’s car was found on Thursday afternoon. He said that Russell’s mother was at the same scene on Thursday afternoon, and he described her as being “very emotional,” as were the rescue workers at the scene.

The vehicle, along with Russell, had last been seen at the Loveland/Johnstown Park-N-Ride, near the intersection of Highway 402 and I-25. The specific location appears to be northeast of Timnath Reservoir, near Colorado Boulevard and Wildwing Drive.

Russell was last seen at about 6 p.m. on Nov. 30, and she was expected at a friend’s home later that night, but never arrived.

A tow truck was on scene as of 4 p.m. as officials prepared to remove the vehicle from the river.

Family, friends and supporters had gathered for a search effort on Thursday, starting near the corner of County Road 54 and County Road 13. The Loveland Police Department posted repeatedly about Russell’s disappearance, sharing again on Thursday morning that she could “be anywhere, so all travelers across Colorado and beyond need to be vigilant right now.”

Thursday morning, authorities searched a pond in Johnstown after reports of a crash in the area, about three miles from where she was last seen on Sunday. No car was found in the pond, but Russell’s family came to the scene.
