(NewsNation) — Queen Elizabeth II was upset during the last few years of her life following the fallout surrounding Meghan and Prince Harry walking away as working members of the royal family, biographer Andrew Lownie exclusively tells NewsNation’s Paula Froelich.

“I think both she and Prince Philip were pretty upset in the last few years of their lives, by the family problems, by the fact that Harry had left the institution,” he says.

Lownie adds that despite the scandal involving the former Prince Andrew and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, she still bestowed honors on her son, including vice admiral of the navy, a position he still technically holds today.

“Everyone says he’s been stripped of his titles, but actually, all that’s happened is he’s been removed from the peerage. He’s still, strictly speaking, a prince,” he tells Froelich.
