VAN BUREN, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A woman in Arkansas is facing criminal charges after court documents say she had her mentally disabled daughter kidnapped and tied to a tree last month.
Tamara Hamby, 59, was arrested on Dec. 3 for one count of conspiracy to commit kidnapping and one count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.

An arrest warrant said that on Nov. 17, a sergeant with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a possible kidnapping in Rudy. The alleged kidnapping involved Hamby’s 22-year-old daughter, who is mentally disabled, according to guardianship court records.
The warrant that Hamby had come up with the idea to have her daughter “kidnapped” as a scare tactic due to her talking to strangers online.
The in-home CNA who was taking care of Hamby’s daughter was allegedly contacted by Hamby about the “kidnapping” plan.
The warrant said the plan was to have someone pretend to be associated with country musician Luke Bryan and communicate with Hamby’s daughter to coordinate a meetup.
The alleged plan was to have the person pick up Hamby’s daughter, take her to a nearby field and demand money before tying her to a tree. Hamby was then supposed to show up and “rescue her.”
The CNA allegedly enlisted two other people to assist, who showed up at the Hamby residence wearing ski masks and took Hamby’s daughter.
Hamby’s daughter was then zip tied and tied to a tree. She eventually broke free and attempted to run away before being tackled by one of the people and was retied to the tree. The warrant said Hamby was watching the entire time.
Hamby’s daughter reportedly escaped a second time and called 911.
KNWA/FOX24 has reached out to multiple Crawford County officials for more information and is waiting to hear back.
Hamby is being held in the Crawford County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 10.
