(NewsNation) — Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may be one of the most high-profile lawmakers on Capitol Hill, but that hasn’t translated into making her one of the wealthiest.
As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Ocasio-Cortez is held to the Ethics in Government Act, which requires some federally elected officials to file a disclosure statement annually.
So, how much is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez worth? What accomplishments have led her to gain her wealth?
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez net worth: $49K
As of November 2025, Ocasio-Cortez’s net worth totaled $49,000, according to Quiver Quantitative.
Ocasio-Cortez’s might not have a ton of cash at her personal disposal, but she generates millions through campaigning. An FEC filing from April said she generated $9.6 million in fundraising, $5.1 million in spending and disclosed $8.3 million in cash.
Ocasio-Cortez’s primary source of income is her job as a representative for the state of New York’s 14th district, where she earns an annual salary of $174,000.

Rumors about Ocasio-Cortez’s estimated $29 million net worth had spread for years before she debunked them herself.
“Her political campaigns are surprisingly well funded, especially considering her young age and avoidance of donations from political action committees (PACs), controversial donor organizations that often have ties to large corporations,” says TheStreet.com.
What are some of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ politcal accomplishments?
During the 2016 presidential election, Ocasio-Cortez gained recognition for her work as a volunteer organizer for Bernie Sanders in the South Bronx.
Two years later, the New York Native defeated incumbent Joe Crowley after her campaign was driven entirely by grassroots volunteers and donations.

“There are some politicians who are very good on policy, and there are some politicians who are good communicators, and there are some politicians that have a way about them that relates very well to ordinary people,” Sanders said. “Alexandria has all three of those characteristics.”
In 2021, Ocasio-Cortez was sworn in for her second term in Congress. Since then, she has reintroduced her Green New Deal resolution, which envisioned a 10-year national mobilization, and submitted 30 amendments.
What controversies have dogged AOC?
As Ocasio-Cortez has climbed the ladder among her constituents, some haven’t seen eye to eye with her on some of her policies.
In July, she received backlash for her vote on an amendment aimed at blocking U.S. funding for Israel’s Iron Dome.

“What it does do is cut off defensive Iron Dome capacities while allowing the actual bombs killing Palestinians to continue,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I have long stated that I do not believe that adding to the death count of innocent victims to this war is constructive to its end.”
Months before Israeli amendment vote, Ocasio-Cortez was hit with an ethics complaint by Americans for Public Trust alleging she misappropriated her taxpayer-funded member allowance. She faced other ethics probes in 2023 and 2021.
