(NewsNation) — A Florida man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of a TikTok influencer, Maurice Harrison, 21, with whom he was in a relationship, according to authorities.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to an emergency call last week, finding “an individual in the front passenger seat of a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.”

The person was identified as Harrison, who was sent to a local medical center and was later pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.

Shanoyd Whyte Jr. was taken into custody at the scene and charged with first-degree murder. Officers said a firearm was located at the scene.

“The victim and suspect were engaged in a verbal argument which turned physical while inside of Whyte Jr.’s vehicle,” investigators said. “At some point, the victim was shot while sitting in the car. Whyte Jr. told detectives he and the victim had been in a relationship for several years.”

Harrison, a transgender influencer, was a hairstylist from Pompano Beach, Florida, with over 235,000 followers on TikTok and more than 41,000 followers on Instagram, according to NBC Miami.

Harrison’s TikTok page has been deactivated.
