SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A Contra Costa County woman is facing federal charges after allegedly assaulting two flight attendants while flying to San Francisco International Airport in late June, the U.S. Department of Justice said Friday.
Reshma Kamath, 40, of Bethel Island, was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of interference with flight crew members. She also faces one count of assaulting, resisting or impeding a federal officer and one count of interference with security screening personnel.
According to the indictment, which was unsealed on Thursday, Kamath was flying on board Air India flight 173 from Delhi, India, to SFO on June 28 and 29 when the alleged assaults against flight crew members occurred. After landing in the Bay Area, Kamath allegedly assaulted an SFO employee working security and resisted arrest and struck a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer.
If Kamath is convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for each count of interference with flight crew members. She also faces eight years in prison if convicted of assaulting a federal officer and 10 years in prison for interference with security screening personnel.
Each count carries a maximum fine of $250,000 if convicted.
Kamath is set to appear in federal court on Jan. 7, 2026.
