(NewsNation) — Lady Gaga says she had a “psychotic break” after filming “A Star is Born.”

In an interview published Thursday by Rolling Stone, the “Abracadabra” singer said she was on lithium while filming the Bradley Cooper-directed movie to treat and prevent manic episodes.

Once the movie finished filming, Gaga went on a world tour to support her “Joanne” album, where she said that her mental health had taken an extreme hit.

“There was one day that my sister said to me, ‘I don’t see my sister anymore.’ And I canceled the tour. There was one day I went to the hospital for psychiatric care. I needed to take a break,” Gaga told the publication.

She added, “I couldn’t do anything … I completely crashed. It was really scary. There was a time where I didn’t think I could get better. …  I feel really lucky to be alive. I know that might sound dramatic, but we know how this can go.”

Lady Gaga thanks fiancé Michael Polansky

Gaga was nominated for two Academy Awards for “A Star is Born,” winning for best original song.

The music superstar credits her fiancé, Michael Polansky, for being a part of her recovery and helping her get back on her feet.

“Being in love with someone [who] cares about the real me made a very big difference,” she said. “How do you learn how to be yourself with someone when you don’t know how to be yourself with anyone?”

Gaga, who has extended her ‘Mayhem Ball’ world tour, told Rolling Stone that she considers herself “a healthy, whole person.”
