(NewsNation) — A “suspicious package” left multiple people ill at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Thursday, officials at the U.S. military base said in a news release.

Someone at the base opened the package, which contained “white powder,” per CNN. The base was evacuated, and “multiple individuals felt ill.”

They were treated by medical staff, though no one was hospitalized.

“As a precaution, the building and connecting building were evacuated, and a cordon was established around the area,” the news release said. “Joint Base Andrews first responders were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats, and normal operations have resumed.”

The Air Force Office of Special Investigation is investigating.

The package also reportedly included political propaganda, according to CNN sources.

President Donald Trump and other officials travel out of Joint Base Andrews on official business.
