(NewsNation) — Authorities discovered a body in a field west of Middlebury College in Vermont during the search for missing student Lia Smith.

The body has not been identified yet, and an autopsy to determine the identity and cause of death will be performed.

Smith, 21, is a senior from California who is double-majoring in computer science and statistics. She is also a member of the school’s swimming and diving team.

Her father reported her missing when he was unable to reach her by phone. She was last seen Oct. 17, and investigators have recently expanded search efforts, which have included the use of dogs and drones.

The body was discovered around 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Cornwall, Vermont, near the school’s organic farm, The Knoll.

Police said there is currently no indication the death is suspicious.
