(NewsNation) — Eric Dane will use his real-life experience living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis as a guest star on NBC’s “Brilliant Minds.”

The “Grey’s Anatomy” star will appear on the ninth episode of the medical drama’s second season, scheduled to air in November.

“Dane will play Matthew, a heroic firefighter who struggles to share his ALS diagnosis with his family and turns to Dr. Oliver Wolf (series lead Zachary Quinto) for help,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor has been open about his struggles with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, after revealing the diagnosis in April.

In June, Dane spoke with Diane Sawyer, revealing that he only has “one functioning arm” and that his left arm is also getting weaker.

“I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won’t have my left hand either. It’s sobering,” he said at the time.

Eric Dane’s ALS has progressed

Dane was recently seen in a wheelchair in September at a Washington, D.C., airport, where he told his fans to “keep the faith.”

Dane was in D.C. with the nonprofit I AM ALS to advocate for research and assistance for those suffering from ALS, according to CNN.

In a video shared on Rep. Eric Swalwell’s TikTok, Dane is speaking with the congressman about the neurodegenerative disease.

“ALS is the last thing they want to diagnose anybody with,” the “Euphoria” actor said. “It so often takes all this time for these people to be diagnosed. Well, then it precludes them from being part of these clinical trials.”

Dane also skipped last month’s Emmys after being scheduled to present an award alongside his former “Grey’s Anatomy” co-star Jesse Williams because the disease had worsened, according to NewsNation’s Paula Froelich.
