CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — It’s a story about the power of social media.
A Chesterfield mother took to TikTok to get donations for her son’s classroom, and she said the celebrity who responded “blew her mind.”
Susana Berrios told 8News in an exclusive interview that she attended her son’s Back to School night at C.C. Wells Elementary School in Chesterfield County at the beginning of the year. She said she noticed that the classroom needed some additional supplies.
“I looked around and [saw] the students are sitting on stools, and I feel like that’s not comfortable for them,” she said.
Berrios said her son’s teacher then sent out a link for the class projects, which needed “more flexible seating options (especially those wonderful rocking chairs) and group tables to encourage collaboration.” The total request was about $400.
Shortly after, Berrios said she was scrolling on TikTok when she came across a video of Khloe Kardashian shopping for her children’s back-to-school supplies in Target, and she took that as a sign to shoot her “B2S shot.”
She wrote: “Khloe I really admire you. Would you donate for my son’s school for new tables and chairs for his classroom? His classmates are sitting on bar stools, no back support or anything, really uncomfortable. I hope you see this. I love you.”
Within hours, that comment received more than 8,000 likes, and even better, a response from Khloe Kardashian asking for the link to the project.
“I was in such disbelief,” Berrios said. “I didn’t think it was real.”
And after some back and forth with the Kardashian manager, Berrios said she saw a message on the class project link.
“A donor from California has fully funded the project. And who is in California? My TikTok is going crazy,” Berrios said.
Kardashian then left the message: “I hope your son has a great school year.”
Berrios said her son’s class is working on a creative way to say thank you, and in the meantime, she’s thanking Kardashian for her kindness.
“She has a million things in front of her and to pay attention to something like that is very beautiful,” Berrios said. “Thank you so much for having a kind heart.”
