(NewsNation) — Laken Snelling, a former University of Kentucky cheerleader who was arrested after her infant was found dead in a closet, has dropped out of college, NewsNation has learned.

Snelling was arrested Aug. 31 after police responded to a call about an unresponsive infant on Aug. 27, according to a Lexington Police Department press release.

When police interviewed Snelling, she admitted to giving birth to a baby boy and concealing him in a towel, according to local NewsNation affiliate WDKY.

Snelling was charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant. She was released from jail after posting a $100,000 bond and put on house arrest with an ankle monitor, according to WDKY.

A University of Kentucky spokesperson told NewsNation Monday that Snelling no longer attends the university, writing, “we are only able to confirm that she has withdrawn at this time.”

The New York Post reported that an ex-boyfriend of Snelling’s took a DNA test to determine if he is the father of the deceased baby boy. His father confirmed this with the Post.

Snelling entered a not guilty plea and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 26.
