(NewsNation) — Artificial intelligence in video game development has become the norm, a new study finds.

According to Reuters, a Google Cloud survey revealed that 87% of video game developers are using artificial intelligence agents to streamline and automate tasks.

The reasoning behind the reliance on AI comes as the video game industry has faced ballooning development costs and elongated creation cycles stemming from high fan expectations and intense competition.

The study also showed that nearly 45% of developers use agents to optimize content and process information.

Some in the survey expressed concerns over data ownership, as questions around the legality of licensing and who exactly owns AI-generated content can sometimes be uncertain.

In 2024, video game performers in California went on strike over AI, while several studios shut down, leading to over 10,000 jobs lost.
