(NewsNation) — Katy Perry was fined thousands of dollars for filming a music video in a protected area of Spain.
The Balearic government fined Perry’s production company 6,001 euros, about $7,000, for filming her “Lifetimes” music video in a protected area of the Ses Salines Natural Park in July 2024 without permission, according to Majorca Daily Bulletin.
The “143” singer reportedly did not get the required permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment to film the video.
The Majorca Daily Bulletin reports that officials cited the matter as a “serious offense” but did not issue more penalties because there’s no evidence of permanent environmental damage.
The Ses Selines Natural Park on the Balearic Islands is located at the southern tip of Ibiza and the north of Formentera and is known for its beaches, salt flats, marshes as well as its biodiversity, according to Excursion Manaia.
Local authorities have long been a part of preservation efforts in the area, according to the Daily Mail.

A representative for Perry told Variety in August 2024 that the film crew had gotten “verbal approval” to film the video after the local government launched its investigation.
“The local video production company assured us that all necessary permits for the video were secured,” a Capitol Records spokesperson told the outlet at the time. “We have since learned that one permit was in process, although we were given verbal authority to go ahead.”
Following the investigator’s findings, the “Roar” singer’s company “promptly settled the fine,” according to Majorca Daily Bulletin.
