(NewsNation) — As the end of the year approaches, chatter is growing surrounding who — or what — will be named Time magazine’s person of the year.

Here are some of the top contenders, according to data from prediction market operator Kalshi.

Artificial intelligence

There hasn’t been a day that’s gone by in recent years in which AI has not made the headlines, from the newest model of ChatGPT to the Trump administration’s plan to make the United States the undisputed leader of AI.

Kalshi data shows there is a 32% chance AI will be named Time’s Person of the Year for 2025.

Pope Leo XIV

Shortly after Pope Francis died in April, the countdown began for the naming of the next head of the Catholic Church.

After a two-day conclave, the cardinal electors chose Robert Francis Prevost to lead the church on May 8, when he took on the name Pope Leo XIV and became the first American to be named pope.

Leo has a 31% chance of becoming Time’s Person of the Year, according to Kalshi.

President Donald Trump

Trump has made headlines since starting his second term, from issuing sweeping tariffs on multiple countries around the world to the passage of his “big, beautiful bill.”
