(NewsNation) — Newly released photos are helping the mother of a missing man pinpoint the exact spot where her son’s truck was recovered.
NewsNation has previously covered the disappearance of Jared McColloch, whose pickup was found in a remote area just over the Illinois state line in Knox County, Indiana.
McColloch’s dogs were obediently waiting inside, but there was no sign of their owner.
Searching for Jared McColloch
His mother has been searching for him ever since, recently hunting down new photos, surveillance video and cell phone records to try and get as much information out to the public as she can. She’s confident someone will help find her son.
Tammie Reppond can’t make sense of the scene where her son’s then three-year-old truck was found with the ignition on, battery dead, gas tank empty and in a remote spot McColloch has no ties to.
Both driver’s side doors were open, but instead of running off, his dogs were faithfully waiting inside.
“It makes me feel more (sure) after seeing the truck that Jared didn’t bring the truck there,” Reppond said.
Since November of 2023, Reppond has endured life without McColloch, her last living son.
Before he disappeared, McColloch took an unscheduled trip from Marion, Louisiana, to Sandoval, Illinois, to help his teenage son.
He took Roxy Mae and Rusty, his faithful canine companions, along on the trip.
“The dogs always went everywhere with him,” Reppond said. “So to him, it was his co-pilots.”
McColloch and his dogs traveled through the night before his disappearance.
Searching for information on Jared McColloch
Reppond has pieced together a timeline of her son’s journey with skills rivaling those of a trained detective.
She’s gathered information, including the receipt for his gas in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and even the menu of his meal at the last stop.
She also has pictures from the owners of a Huck’s in Salem, Illinois, where McColloch got gas at 2 a.m.
Surveillance video showed his truck leaving the gas station and making a U-turn after getting a text. He got fuel again at 5 a.m.
Teri Bonvicino has been travelling with Reppond as they search for evidence and try to bring attention to the case.
“I would be the exact same way if it was my son,” Bonvicino said.
Where did Jared McColloch disappear?
She says the new photos of the spot where the truck was recovered reveal trouble with the initial sheriff’s search.
“We were able to pinpoint exactly, by the picture, exactly where that truck was parked and it was nowhere near the marking,” Bonvicino said. “They had some dogs out there and did a search last year and they marked some trees and poles of where the truck was and it was not where the truck was.”
Bovicinoi and Reppond searched the exact spot where they now know McColloch’s truck was located.
“Now that you know that exact spot, we were out there with metal detectors, and her nephew was out there too,” Reppond said. “And of course, I didn’t bring a shovel because I didn’t expect anything and just hoping for some kind of sign, to find his dog tags, find the things that were in his pocket, just something. And we were talking to Jared quite a bit while we were out there.”
Finding the location is something that has been key for Reppond.
“I can’t explain why it was important to me, but let’s just say, if Jared had went to heaven at that spot, I wanted to know the exact spot and finding that exact spot that his truck and dogs were in at least made a lot of difference to me,” Reppond said.
Tracing Jared McColloch’s last steps
Reppond has played the last known video of McColloch over and over again.
McColloch stopped at a gas station in Carmi, Illinois, where the pump gave him trouble. He left the dogs in his truck and went inside to pay in cash.
Reppond has tracked down just about everyone in the checkout line, where McColloch was allowed to go directly to the counter. However, not all of them will talk to her.
“If I would have ran into Jared at any of his stops, many stops at the gas station, I would be so ready to speak to the mother or whoever wanted to speak to me and give as much help as I possibly could,” Bonvicino said.
After McColloch fuels up his truck, he turns left, heading east and then north, away from his destination.
What was left in Jared McColloch’s truck?
Reppond and Bonvicino also say there were oddities with the abandoned truck. The expensive tools McColloch had with him were not stolen.
There was also a pack of cigarettes in the door bin of the back seat, a seat where only McColloch’s dogs would sit. The pack was also missing McColloch’s upside-down lucky cigarette inside.
The interior dust of the back window showed scratch marks and some items, including McColloch’s pliers, flashlight, vape and cell phone, were missing.
That phone is one Reppond and her husband are still paying for, hoping to keep the line active just in case.
The Knox County detective working the case told NewsNation they are always seeking additional information from the public to help find McColloch.
Jared McColloch is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and around 179 pounds. He has blond hair and several tattoos. He was last seen wearing jeans, a light blue shirt, dark blue Sketchers and a brown Carhartt jacket. Anyone with information on him should contact the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
