Kansas Amber Alert ends; child found in Illinois

ICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has canceled an Amber Alert for a 2-year-old boy who was reportedly abducted from Topeka.

The KBI says the boy has been located safely. Law enforcement in Mattoon, Illinois, found the child and the alleged suspect, 42-year-old Christopher Barnshaw, at 12:25 p.m. Both were in custody.

According to the Topeka Police Department, the boy was forcibly taken from his mother on July 18 in the 500 block of NE Wabash.

TPD Chief Chris Vallejo said an active homicide investigation is underway following the Amber Alert. He said police were called Tuesday around 9:50 a.m. to the home on Wabash for a welfare check. Police found a woman and a man dead in the house.
