(NewsNation) — Google’s new Doppl app allows users to try on clothes virtually by uploading a photo or screenshot of an outfit.

The AI-powered app, unveiled Thursday, creates a digital version of each user. When a shopper spots a shirt or outfit they like, they can snap a picture and upload it to the app.

The user’s animated self is then outfitted with the clothing item, allowing them to see how it would look without ever having to step foot in a dressing room.

Doppl also creates AI-generated videos of users wearing the outfit that “give you an even better sense for how an outfit might feel,” Google wrote in a news release announcing the feature.

Google rolled out the ability to virtually try on clothes on Google Shopping in May, but that only applied to products listed on Google.

Doppl builds on those capabilities by allowing users to upload a photo of any clothing item — whether it be an outfit at a retail store or T-shirt at a thrift shop.

However, Google warned that Doppl is a Google Labs experiment and is in its initial stages.

The company said the app “might not always get things right” and that the “fit, appearance, and clothing details might not always be accurate.”

Shoppers who are eager to try the feature can head to their app store to download Doppl.
