(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump will visit King Charles at Buckingham Palace later this year, according to reports.
Charles invited Trump for a second state visit in February, making him the first elected official to be invited twice in modern history. Trump was previously hosted by Queen Elizabeth in 2019 during his first term. He also visited Windsor Castle in 2018, where he was seen breaching protocol by walking in front of the monarch.
The only other presidents formally invited to Britain by Elizabeth were Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.
The date for Trump’s visit hasn’t been confirmed, but the BBC reported that it will most likely be in September. The Times reported that a formal invitation, known as the “Manu Regia,” was signed by Charles and hand-delivered to White House officials in Washington last week.
Angela Rayner, deputy prime minister for the United Kingdom, told Parliament, “We are really pleased the U.S. president is coming for a second state visit.”
Trump: ‘I have great respect for King Charles and the family’
In April, Trump said, “They’re going to do a second, as you know, a second fest… and it’s the first time it’s ever happened to one person. And the reason is we have two separate terms, and it’s an honor… I’m a friend of Charles, I have great respect for King Charles and the family.”
Despite rumors, there will not be a meeting between Trump and Charles this summer due to scheduling conflicts.
An aide with Buckingham Palace told the BBC, “His majesty has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year.”
