(NewsNation) — Rapper Kid Cudi testified in the federal criminal trial for Sean “Diddy” Combs on Thursday.
Kid Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, was called by prosecutors to tell the jury about his brief relationship with singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, Combs’ ex-girlfriend and the prosecution’s star witness.
The rapper was escorted into the Lower Manhattan federal courthouse by U.S. Marshals and Homeland Security agents and sworn in Thursday morning.
He told the jury he dated Ventura briefly in 2011 after they first met in 2008.
When prosecutor Emily Johnson asked if there was someone involved with Ventura when they dated, he replied that Combs was.
Kid Cudi says Diddy broke into his house
In December 2011, Mescudi testified that Combs found out he was dating Ventura. The Bad Boys label executive broke into the rapper’s Hollywood Hills home, according to Mescudi.
Mescudi said Combs’ assistant, Capricorn Clark, called him when the rapper and Ventura were at a West Hollywood Hotel.
“Sean Combs and an affiliate were in my house, and she was in a car, and she was forced to go with them over there,” the musician testified.
Mescudi said he called Combs and questioned why the music executive was in his home. Combs replied, “I want to talk to you,” and informed Mescudi that “I’m over here waiting for you.”
Mescudi said when he got to his house, Combs was not there. Instead, he came back to find his dog locked in the bathroom and Christmas gifts opened.
The rapper called Combs asking where he was.
Mescudi said Combs told him, “I’m on my way, I’m on my way.”
Unsure what was happening, Mescudi said he called the police.

He said his dog sitter called and “told me my car was on fire.”
Prosecutors released photos of the fire damage to Mescudi’s car after showing them to the jury, Thursday.
Images of the vehicle were shown to the jury, including a Molotov cocktail in the passenger seat and a hole cut into the roof.
Mescudi arranged to speak to Combs, saying, “After the fire I said, this is getting out of hand, I need to talk to him.”
He noted that he did not have any conflicts with anyone else at the time.
“I knew he had something to do with it,” Mescudi said.
The defense objected to his remark, and the judge asked the jurors to disregard it.

During Mescudi’s cross-examination, Combs’ attorney, Brian Steel, suggested that Ventura led a double life.

Makeup artist testifies Cassie left hotel room with injuries after Diddy visit
Mylah Morales, a makeup artist who worked for both Combs and Ventura during 2007-2021, said on the stand that during her tenure, she only saw the singer with injuries once.
In 2010, during Grammy Weekend, she said Combs went into Ventura’s hotel room in a rage. When she saw Ventura after, she testified the musician had a “swollen eye and a busted lip and knots on her head.”
After the assault, Morales said Ventura stayed with her for three or four days. A friend of Morales, who was a doctor, saw Ventura to evaluate her injuries and recommended she go to the emergency room. Ventura did not go.

Former Diddy assistant testifies Diddy was a demanding boss
Mescudi’s testimony followed one of Combs’ former assistants, who told the jury how strict and demanding the music producer was as a boss.
George Kaplan, who worked for Combs from 2013 to 2015, was initially going to plead his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, but changed his mind after striking an immunity deal with prosecutors on Wednesday.
The former assistant was granted an order of immunity that would compel him to answer all questions put before him truthfully without the risk of prosecution. The prosecutor noted to Kaplan that he could still be prosecuted for perjury if he’s untruthful.
Kaplan testified that he purchased drugs for his then-boss two times.
Kaplan said he would set up the hotel rooms for Combs ahead of time, including putting out baby oil and lubricant, and he assisted in the cleanup afterwards.
On Thursday, Kaplan testified that he was given $50,000 by Combs’ security staff to carry on a private jet.
He said he would also go to Western Union and get thousands of dollars at a time on several occasions.
The former Diddy assistant said he witnessed the hip-hop mogul assault Ventura on the rapper’s private plane in 2015 on a trip to Las Vegas. Kaplan recounted that he heard glass breaking, and when he turned around, he saw Combs with a whiskey glass in hand
Kaplan said on the stand, “There was tremendous commotion and a scuffle and then after the glass crashed, Cassie screamed: ‘Isn’t anybody seeing this?”
He said that neither himself nor Combs’ security staff intervened. He heard more glass crashing in the back, and Combs telling Ventura to stay in the back of the plane while Combs came back to sit in the front. Kaplan noted that Combs appeared “even keeled.” No one checked on Ventura according to the ex-assistant.
When Kaplan was questioned about why he stood idly by watching Combs assault the singer, he testified that he did not want to lose his job saying he, “couldn’t believe my good fortune to be working for such an icon.” He was 23 years old at the time.
Diddy assistant quit after seeing him beat Cassie: testimony
Kaplan said after seeing Combs assault Ventura on the private plane, he gave 3 months’ notice that he would be leaving the position telling his then-boss it was because it was due to his father’s being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
However, he testified that after the plane assault, he observed that Ventura had a black eye. Combs sent him to get anti-inflammatory medicine for her.

Kaplan said he still hold respect for Combs’ business savvy.
“I had been a fan of his since I was a child. I keep lessons from him to this day,” Kaplan shared with the court.

Kaplan said that he saw Combs assault a different girlfriend identified as Gina.
While at Combs’ residence in Florida, Kaplan recalled seeing the rapper throw apples at her.
“He was very angry. She was trying to shield herself with her arms,” Kaplan testified.
Kaplan said he tried to rationalize Combs’ behavior.
“I thought it might be normal and this is what I might expect if I wanted to have a career in this industry. I was working all of that out as a young man,” Kaplan explained.
Ex-Diddy assistant says rapper was like a ‘god’
Kaplan said during his employment with Combs, the rapper was held in esteem like a God.
“I’m a young man and this is a god among men talking to me,” Kaplan recounted.
Still to this day, Kaplan said he hold reverence for Combs.
“He not only pushed me to my depth he pushed me to depths I didn’t even know,” Kaplan said. He continues to wish Combs a happy birthday each year.

Ex-Diddy assistant testifies he has nothing against Diddy
Kaplan said that he did not want to participate in testifying and that it was only after the prosecution’s subpoena he agreed under the condition of immunity.
He said he, “desperately did not want to come here today.”
Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, implored why he did not want to testify, asking is it, “because you have nothing against Sean Combs?”
Kaplan responded with a simple, “yes.”
Prosecution witnesses were not ready to proceed on Thursday and the judge ended court early.
The trial will resume on Tuesday after the Memorial Day weekend. The judge stated it was vital for jurors to avoid media coverage of the trial during the holiday weekend.
