(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social he plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone call on Monday morning.

He said the call’s purpose will be to stop “the ‘bloodbath’ that is killing, on average, more than 5,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers a week.” The two will also discuss trade, he wrote.

Trump also said he expects to speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and various NATO members.

“Hopefully it will be a productive day, a ceasefire will take place, and this very violent war, a war that should have never happened, will end,” the post said in capital letters. “God bless us all!!!”
