NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) – Ground stops have been lifted at Newark Liberty International Airport and LaGuardia Airport Monday morning, but delays remain extensive, according to the FAA.

A ground stop was issued at Newark at 7:30 a.m. due to low ceilings, which refers to weather and visibility, according to the FAA. The stop was still in effect as of 6 p.m., causing delays of up to four hours.

Over 100 flights scheduled to leave before 2:30 p.m. have been canceled or delayed, according to a Newark Airport flight tracker.

LaGuardia’s ground stop was called shortly after 8 a.m. and lifted around 10:30 a.m. Travelers are seeing delays of over two hours on average, according to the FAA.

A ground stop was also issued at Teterboro Airport, but it has since been lifted, according to the FAA.

Newark Airport has been dealing with numerous delays and cancellations since last week due to staffing shortages and equipment trouble. Departures were delayed for over two hours on Sunday.

United Airlines also announced that it was canceling 35 round-trip flights out of the airport over FAA staffing.

“In the past few days, on more than one occasion, technology that FAA air traffic controllers rely on to manage the airplanes coming in and out of Newark airport failed – resulting in dozens of diverted flights, hundreds of delayed and canceled flights,” United CEO Scott Kirby said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the technology issues were compounded as over 20% of the FAA controllers for EWR walked off the job.”

John F. Kennedy International Airport also experienced departure delays of up to 30 minutes due to volume, according to the FAA. Normal service has since resumed.
