(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump says his tariffs will bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States, but some doubt that’s the main goal and think many of the import taxes could be short-lived.

“I think he’s just trying to renegotiate trade deals, and he’s kind of made that clear today,” said Ana Kasparian, a political commentator on “The Young Turks” news show.

In an “On Balance” interview, Kasparian pointed out that the stock market bounced back a little bit from early losses Monday and thinks it’s because many no longer expect the tariffs to stick around.

“People are now starting to realize it’s not really about implementing long-term permanent tariffs that are going to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States,” Kasparian told NewsNation’s Leland Vittert.

Kasparian said she thinks “some of Trump’s tariffs are real” and could be long-term but believes he’s trying to justify the “$4.5 trillion in tax cuts he wants to pass.”
