Sevier County student hit while waiting for bus

SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A 10-year-old Sevier County Schools student was taken to the hospital after they were struck while waiting for the bus Friday morning, according to a school system spokesperson.

The student was struck by a passing car while they were waiting for or boarding a school bus on East Union Valley Road. The student was taken to the hospital.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the scene. John Callaway, 55, was charged with reckless endangerment and overtaking or passing a school bus.

“School system personnel are working to support the family and cooperating with law enforcement as they continue to investigate,” the spokesperson added.
