(NewsNation) — A Delta flight from Minneapolis to Toronto crashed and flipped over while landing, and all 80 people on board were evacuated.

Toronto Pearson Airport confirmed on X it was aware of an incident that happened upon landing and that emergency crews were responding. All inbound flights to the airport were being held at their point of origin following the crash.

Delta said on X that Flight 4819, operated by Endeavor Air, was involved in a single-aircraft accident around 2:15 p.m. ET. There were 76 passengers and four crew members on board. Delta is working to connect with people whose flights may be impacted.

Departures and arrivals resumed as of 5 p.m. ET. however, Delta Airlines has canceled all their flights to and from the Toronto airport and has issued a travel waiver.

“The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. “We are working to confirm the details and will share the most current information on news.delta.com as soon as it becomes available.  In the meantime, please take care and stay safe.”

When did the crash happen?

The FAA said in a statement that Delta Air Lines Flight 4819, operated by Endeavor Air, crashed around 2:45 p.m. local time. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will be in charge of the investigation into what led to the crash landing.

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board is also lending assistance to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada in the investigation. The Transportation Board of Canada will be in charge of releasing any information about the investigation.

Two runways will remain closed for the investigation.

Where was the flight from?

The flight departed from Minneapolis.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said he was in contact with Delta following the crash. Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., said on X he was praying for those on board.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., called for an investigation into the accident.

“Thinking of those on the Delta flight that left Minneapolis and crash landed in Toronto. Thankful for all the first responders and those on the plane who worked to get everyone to safety and those injured to care. We must get to the bottom of what happened,” Klobuchar said on X.

What kind of plane was it?

The flight was a Canadair Regional Jet CRJ-900 (twin-jet), according to FlightAware. The planes are made by Bombardier Aviation.

How many people were injured?

The airport said all passengers and crew are accounted for. Paramedics said 18 people were injured in the crash, and are in critical condition, according to Greater Toronto Airports Authority President and CEO, Deborah Flint.

Two people were taken by separate air ambulances to a trauma center in Toronto: a man in his 60s and a woman in her 40s. A pediatric patient was taken to a children’s hospital.

The injured passengers were transported to local area hospitals.

There were no fatalities.

What was the weather at the time of the crash?

At the time of the crash, weather reports show Toronto experiencing 31 mph hour winds with gusts upwards of 40 mph and a temperature of 18 degrees Fahrenheit with a wind chill of minus 5 F.

Earlier in the day, the airport said on social media that it was expecting around 1,000 flights as airlines worked to catch up from delays caused by snow over the weekend.

Toronto Pearson Fire Chief Todd Aitken said the confirmed that the runway was dry and there were no crosswind conditions.

Other airline crashes in 2025

The crash comes following a string of crashes and accidents involving planes in the first month and a half of 2025.

An American Airlines passenger jet and an Army helicopter collided in midair in Washington, D.C., killing all 67 people on board; a military plane crashed into the San Diego Bay; a plane crashed in Alaska and a medical jet crashed in Philadelphia all in the first few weeks of 2025.

There were also multiple smaller incidents, including runway collisions in the U.S. and abroad.
