(NewsNation) — David Fisher, a professional jump roper known as the “Rope Warrior,” used his skill to help save the life of a teenager.
Fisher and his son Felix pulled the teenager out of an icy pond using a jump rope after he got stuck.
The teen’s dog had chased some geese into nearby water, and the young man ran after his pet but couldn’t get back to shore.
Fisher grabbed his jump ropes to help.
“It all kind of happened in slow motion,” he said.
Fisher has written a series of superhero books titled “Adventures of the Rope Warrior” and said he’d come up with scenarios of how a rope could be used to save lives or defend someone but never imagined it would happen in real life.
Fisher’s son was the first to realize something was amiss. He told his father there was a dog in the water, and he was going to help. Then he came back, saying a teenager had gone after his dog and was drowning.
Fisher grabbed his jump ropes and followed his son to the pond.
“We saw him treading water, but he was screaming that he was going to drown,” Fisher said.
He left one of his double-Dutch ropes on shore in case he, too, went into the water and began heading out on the ice, which cracked under his feet.
“I flipped him the rope, and he grabbed it and I pulled him out,” Fisher said. “It’s the craziest thing that this worked out as well as it did.”
After pulling the teen out of the water, Fisher gave him his coat and took him to his house to get warm while they waited for firefighters and paramedics. The teen, a college student, is getting on with his life after the experience.
