(NewsNation) — Former talk show host Wendy Williams remains in a guardianship indefinitely as questions swirl about her well-being.

Investigative journalist Diane Dimond believes the alleged handling of the situation by Williams’ guardian raises serious concerns.

“I believe that criminal things happen within the guardianship system all the time, and we don’t know about it because it’s such a damn secret system,” Dimond said Tuesday, during an appearance on “Banfield,” adding that guardianships like Williams’ are a “damn secret society.”

Wendy Williams says she’s ‘trapped’ in abusive conservatorship

Williams said she is not “cognitively impaired” and has been “trapped” in an emotionally abusive conservatorship in her first interview since the airing of a controversial documentary about her dementia diagnosis.

Williams called into the radio show “The Breakfast Club” last month.

“I feel like I am in prison … I am definitely isolated,”  Williams said of the facility she has been staying at under the direction of court-appointed conservator Sabrina Morrissey.

“I’m in this place where the people are in their 90s and their 80s and their 70s. There’s something wrong with these people here on this floor,” she said.

Wendy Williams granted permission to attend dad’s 94th birthday

Last week, a judge granted Williams’ request to attend her father’s 94th birthday in Miami, TMZ reported. Williams will get two days away from the assisted living facility in New York, where she’s currently based, to celebrate with her family.

TMZ also reports that the judge is prohibiting Williams from having any further contact with the media.
