NEW YORK (PIX11) – A New York City woman was aboard a passenger jet that collided with an Army helicopter at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport near Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, her family confirmed.

Melissa Jane Nicandri, 28, of Brooklyn, was among the victims who died, according to her family.

The collision occurred at around 9 p.m. Wednesday, just over 3 miles south of the White House and the U.S. Capitol.

The plane carried 60 passengers and four crew members. Three soldiers were on board the helicopter. All 67 are believed to have been killed in the accident.

Jason Ambrosi, president of the Air Line Pilots Association, said the union’s accident investigation team was on the scene working with the National Transportation Safety Board, and its Critical Incident Response Program was working to support union members and the families involved in the collision.

“We mourn the loss of our friends, colleagues, and members of our ALPA and Association of Flight Attendants union family,” he said.
