TICE, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was arrested Sunday after Florida deputies said he broke into a woman’s home while she was sleeping and stabbed her multiple times.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home on New York Drive in Tice, located just northeast of Fort Myers, to find a woman with several stab wounds.

Detectives discovered that 34-year-old Bonnier Jose Sarmiento Lanza forced himself into the home and began hitting and stabbing the woman while she slept. He also hit another person who was in the home, according to deputies.

Officials began treating the victim, as a drone unit was deployed to hunt down the suspect.

The video shows the suspect walking on the road with his weapon, one street away from the scene. A cruiser then pulls up to Lanza, where deputies detained him.

The sheriff’s office said Lanza and the victim knew each other. The woman is currently in stable condition.

“I am proud of the deputies and drone operator who located and quickly apprehended this violent, fleeing suspect,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said. “Once again, technology and dedicated patrol deputies working together get results”.

Lanza is charged with two counts of burglary with battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
