(NewsNation) — Bernie Sanders told Democrats “the top 1% have never, ever had it so good” and that “together,” Democrats can “win this struggle” to help those who aren’t so well off.

During his speech at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, Sanders advocated for an economy that “works for all,” not just the billionaire class.

“My fellow Americans, when 60% of our people live paycheck to paycheck, the top 1% have never, ever had it so good. And these oligarchs tell us we shouldn’t tax the rich. The oligarchs tell us we shouldn’t take on price gouging. We shouldn’t expand Medicare to cover dental, hearing and vision, and we shouldn’t increase Social Security benefits for struggling seniors,” Sanders said.

“Well, I’ve got some bad news for them: That is precisely what we are going to do, and we’re going to win this struggle, because this is precisely what the American people want from their government.”

Sanders continued to slam Trump, connecting him to the conservative Project 2025 agenda.

“Let me tell you what a radical agenda is,” Sanders told attendees. “And that is Trump’s Project 2025. Giving more tax breaks to billionaires. Putting forth budgets to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Letting polluters destroy our planet.”

“That is what is radical,” he added, responding to Republican attacks on progressive priorities.
