Robert Sherman

Robert Sherman serves as an international correspondent for NewsNation. He joined the network in 2022.  

During his tenure at the network, Mr. Sherman has reported on countless major global news stories. For the past four years, he has covered both the Israel-Hamas conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war. He was one of the first national cable news reporters on the ground in Ukraine covering the Russian incursion, reporting from locations that were later destroyed by Russian armed forces. Additionally, he spent months in Tel Aviv, Israel covering the historic peace negotiations between Israel and Hamas. While in Gaza, he obtained exclusive access to Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s Saudi Neighborhood aid distribution site, marking the first time an American television network had traveled to an aid site since peace talks had been underway.

In 2025, he spent a month in Rome, Italy covering the death of Pope Francis and the subsequent papal conclave and election of the first American pope, Pope Leo XIV. Mr. Sherman garnered national attention for a now-viral moment when he shook the hands of the new Pope and asked him if he had a message send to the United States. Additionally, he has flown aboard Air Force One as part of the White House press pool.

Prior to joining NewsNation, Mr. Sherman spent two years reporting for FOX News Channel. There, he was tasked with covering some of the nation’s biggest stories, including the trial of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, the 2021 Virginia gubernatorial race, the 2021 Georgia Senate runoff elections, the search for Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie, the Dixie Wildfire in California, and Hurricanes Ida, Laura, Sally, and Delta.

He also spent time as a reporter for WIAT-TV (CBS 42) in Birmingham, Alabama. The Alabama Broadcaster’s Association awarded him as the “Best General Assignment Reporter” in 2020.

Mr. Sherman is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. He is a graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where he earned his bachelor’s degrees in communications and economics. He is the author of Lessons from the Front: A Rookie War Correspondent in Ukraine and Israel.
